17 brave hearts from J&K among 377 to be remembered

Jammu: The nation is set to remember the sacrifices made by the security personnel from various forces to mark National Police Commemoration Day in various parts of the country on Thursday.
However, in the past one year, as many as 377 security personnel including from Jammu and Kashmir Police, have attained martyrdom while fighting terrorism.
Official sources said that in the last one year, 377 police personnel and paramilitary personnel have sacrificed their lives in the country.
“The nation is indebted to the supreme sacrifices of these brave hearts who have martyred for the country to counter proxy war waged by Pakistan from across the border,” an official said.
He said that those who sacrificed lives also included 17 officers and jawans from Jammu and Kashmir Police.
Besides, seven jawans of Central Reserve Police Force and Border Security Force had also saved the lives of innocent people by sacrificing their lives in various operations.
Every year on National Police Day is commemorated on October 21 wherein tributes are paid to the soldiers of the police and paramilitary forces who were martyred while protecting the country.
In Jammu and Kashmir, the main program is to be held in Jeewan, Srinagar in which Director General of Police Dilbag Singh will pay tribute to the security forces.
At the same time, the program will also be organized at the Police Stadium Gulshan Ground in Jammu. Apart from this, tributes will also be paid to the martyrs at the Police Martyrs Memorial built outside the Jammu Railway Station in the evening.
Between October 21, 2020 to October 19 this year as many as 17 Jammu and Kashmir Police personnel sacrificed their lives in various counter terrorism operations including two inspectors, one assistant sub-inspector, eleven constable rank personnel and three special police officers.
The martyrs also include SHO Anantnag Arshad Ahmed Khan and Inspector Mohammad Ashraf.
