Stunted & Anemia

In Jammu and Kashmir, over 251, 393 children are stunted; while over 625,519 children have anemia.The data have been put forth by NITI Aayog in a study titled State Nutrition Profile of Jammu and Kashmir. The data describes the trends for a set of key nutrition and health outcomes, determinants, and coverage of interventions. The findings are based on data from the National Family Health Survey (NFHS) 3 (2005-2006), 4 (2015-2016), and 5 (2019-2020).Stunting is when a child has a low height for their age, usually due to malnutrition, repeated infections, and/or poor social stimulation. While as Anemia is a condition in which one lack enough healthy red blood cells to carry adequate oxygen to your body's tissues.As per the NITI Aayog study report, regarding the number of stunted children in Jammu and Kashmir 18 districts out of 20 shows public health concern.Further, as per the data, Anantnag district has the highest number of 27, 578 stunted children. In Srinagar, there are 24, 680 stunted children. In Kupwara, there are 21, 982 stunted children. In Jammu, there are 20, 178 stunted children. In Budgam, there are 19, 025 stunted children.In, Rajouri there are more around 15, 000 stunted children. In Baramulla, there are 18 stunted children. In Kathua, there are around 8,000 stunted children. In Poonch, there are around 10,000 stunted children. In Ramban, there are around 7 stunted children. In Udhampur, there are around 15, 000 stunted children. In Doda, there are around 11,000 stunted children. In Kishtwar, there are around 5,000 stunted children.Further, as per the study, regarding the number of anemic children in Jammu and Kashmir 20 out of 20 districts 20 shows public health concern.As per the data, Anantnag is the highest-burden district with 69,576 numbers of anemic children. Kupwara stands seconds with 62,491 numbers anemic children. Budgam stands third with 54,203 numbers of anemic children. In Srinagar, the numbers of anemic children are 51,730. In Baramulla, the numbers of anemic children are 48, 307.Further, in Jammu, the numbers of anemic children are around 47,000. In Rajouri, the numbers of anemic children are around 34,000. In Udhampur, the numbers of anemic children are around 25, 000. In Poonch, the numbers of anemic children are around 19,000.
