BDO held in graft case suffers heart attack after accused of being kingpin

Jammu: A day after being booked by Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) in a bribery case, a Block Development Officer (BDO) suffered heart attack and was rushed to the Government Medical College Hospital for treatment.
Official sources said that BDO after hearing that his accomplice, junior engineer (JE) had named him as a conspirator and shifted all blame of accepting graft on him felt unconscious. Sharing details, official sources said that the BDO who is one of the three accused in Doda trap case had a heart attack.
The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) Tuesday booked Asif Ahmad Chandel, BDO Changa; Mansoor Ahmad, Gram Rozgar Sewak (GRS), Block Changa and Junior Engineer, Arshad Amin vide FIR No 06/2021 under PC Act 1988 read with Section 120-B of IPC for demanding and accepting bribes.
While ACB said that only JE has been arrested in this case and hunt for others is on, sources said that a team of ACB Wednesday had gone to the office of BDO to secure his arrest where he was apprised that JE had shifted the blame on him. On hearing these words, the BDO fell unconscious. He was rushed to the GMC hospital for treatment.
ACB swung into action on the basis of the complaint that Asif Ahmad Chandel, BDO Changa; Mansoor Ahmad, Gram Rozgar Sewak (GRS), Block Changa and Junior Engineer, Arshad Amin are not releasing final payment of public works done under MGNREGA in Block Changa, Tehsil Gandoh, district Doda. “When complainant approached BDO with a request to release payment, the BDO asked him to meet concerned GRS and JE first, after which he would release payment. On meeting GRS Mansoor Ahmed, the complaint was asked to pay a bribe of Rs 12,000 against each work, for releasing payment while JE Arshad Amin demanded Rs 17,000 as bribe to process his case,” the official added, adding, “a trap team was constituted which caught accused official Arshad Amin red handed while accepting a bribe of Rs 17,000. He was arrested on the spot while accused Gram Rozgar Sewak is absconding and all efforts are being made to nab him,” said the official, adding that further investigation is going on in the matter”, said ACB officials.
