Anti-drone system soon to counter UAVs along IB

Jammu: To counter ever increasing drone threats across the Jammu region, an anti-drone system will soon be installed all along the International Border.
As per reports, the hi-tech system is being introduced by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO).
“The anti-drone system to deal with the ever-increasing threat of drone attacks will soon be tested along the International Border in Jammu,” reliable sources said.
They said that the BSF will take a final decision soon on setting up the system on the basis of trial.
The existing anti-drone system is capable of detecting drones flying within a radius of 4 km, jamming within a radius of 2-km and shooting it down within a range of 1 to 2 km, as per sources.
“Some special places along the border are identified for installation of the system and it will be tested before its installation at these locations,” sources revealed.
The BSF as per sources, have also requested the DRDO on this.
Electro-optic drone systems have also been installed by the Army at a few places along the LoC in Poonch and this system is capable of detecting enemy drones at a range of one and a half kilometer, intercepting its communication system, shooting it in the air and it uses laser technology.
The anti-drone system developed by DRDO will undergo real-time on-ground testing as per the geographical conditions of Jammu and Kashmir and as per the requirement of BSF and other security agencies.
“If this test is successful, then only the system will be installed and apart from this, if any defect is found, will be rectified accordingly,” they asserted.
He said that the existing drone system of DRDO has been tested once near Amritsar in November-December last year.
The Jammu and Kashmir administration has already banned drones possession by civilians, its use in marriage functions and to cover mega events without any permission.
