Yediyurappa resigns as Karnataka CM

Bengaluru, Jul 26: Ending a prolonged speculation over his ouster, BS Yediyurappa on Monday announced his resignation from the post of the chief minister of Karnataka.
“I have made a decision. I will go to Raj Bhavan to tender my resignation to the Governor. Not out of pain, but out of happiness I express my gratitude towards Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Amit Shah and Nadia for making the chief minister despite my age was past seventy five years,” a teary Yediyurappa said at a programme to mark the celebration of two years of his government.
The 78-year-old Lingayat strongman was considered the face of the BJP in the state in the past two decades.
Yediyurappa is expected to meet the Governor at 4 pm.
Yediyurappa said he would work hard to strengthen the party for next two years and bring it back to power in Karnataka in 2023.
He also said his government had fought for farmers, Dalits and the people of this state.
He is an eight-time MLA from Shikaripura constituency in Shimoga district and served as the Chief Minister of Karnataka for a record four times.
He is the only man to serve as the CM for four times in Karnataka and also the only one to serve 3 times as the leader of the opposition in the Karnataka Legislative Assembly.
