India logs 39,742 cases

New Delhi: India recorded 39,742 new Covid-19 cases on Sunday, taking the total tally of confirmed cases in the country to 3,13,71,901.
With 535 new fatalities registered in the last 24 hours, India's Covid-19 death toll climbed to 4,20,551 lakh, as per the data provided by the Union Health Ministry on Sunday.
The top five states which registered maximum cases are Kerala with 18,531 cases, followed by Maharashtra with 6,269 cases, Andhra Pradesh with 2,174 cases, Odisha with 1,864 cases and Karnataka with 1,857 cases. These five states contribute to 77.23 per cent of the new cases, with Kerala alone accountable for 46.63 per cent of the new cases.
Of the 535 new fatalities, maximum casualties were reported in Maharashtra (224), followed by Kerala with 98 daily deaths.
According to health ministry data on Sunday morning, at least 39,972 people recovered from the virus, taking the total number of recoveries to 3,05,43,138 across the country. The overall recovery rate of the country stands at 97.36 per cent.
The tally of active Covid-19 cases in the country saw a decrease of 765 cases in the last 24 hours and now stands at 4,08,212. The active cases constitute 1.30 per cent of the total cases, the health ministry data said.
The weekly positivity rate remained below five per cent, and currently stands at 2.24 per cent. The daily positivity rate stands at 2.31 per cent, less than 3 per cent for 34 consecutive days, the health ministry data said.
India has administered a total of 51,18,210 doses in the last 24 hours, which brings the total tally of doses administered to 43,31,50,864, the data showed.
