DHSK orders resumption of elective surgeries in non Covid-19 hospitals

Srinagar: The Directorate of Health Services Kashmir (DHSK) Saturday ordered the resumption of elective surgeries in non-Covid-19 health institutions across the valley with all necessary Standard Operating Procedure (SOP).
As per the reports, the directions have been passed to Chief Medical Officers, Medical Superintendent’s, and Block Medical Officers under the administrative control of DHSK to resume conducting elective routine surgeries in their respective Non-Covid health institutions forthwith in view of the decline in the number of Covid-19 positive cases reported from across Kashmir Division.
While in this regard a circular has been issued by Dr. Mushtaq Ahmad Rather Director, Health Services, Kashmir.
“This is in supersession to this office orders regarding the subject matter. In this context, in the interest of better patient care, it is impressed upon all Chief Medical Officers, Medical Superintendents & Block Medical Officers under the Administrative control of this Directorate to resume conducting of elective routine surgeries in their respective Non-Covid health institutions forthwith in view of the decline in the number of Covid-19 positive cases reported from across Kashmir Division”, the circular reads.
“However, all the necessary precautions, guidelines & Standard Operating Procedures issued by competent authorities from time to time must be adhered to while performing surgeries in the interest of the safety of patients as well as healthcare workers”.
The elective surgeries were stopped in both Covid-19 dedicated and non-Covid-19 dedicated hospitals amid a surge in Covid-19 positive cases across the valley. Whereas, Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, P K Pole had ordered deferment of all elective and routine surgeries in government and private health institutions in Kashmir amid a continuing upsurge in Covid-19 on May 5.
