SMC to convert more community centers into COVID wellness center

Srinagar, May 1: Expressing gratitude to the people of Srinagar for cooperating fully to administration for implementation of corona curfew, Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) Mayor Junaid Azim Mattu said the corporation is to covert more community centers into COVID-19 wellness centers.

However, he was concerned over referring patients with mild or moderate symptoms from district hospitals to Srinagar.

He said, 'My gratitude to the people of Srinagar for cooperating fully to ensure success of corona curfew imposed by the administration for our good.

“ We continue to identity SMC resources and Community Centers to be used as fully equipped SMC COVID Wellness Centers” he said adding this initiative is aimed at helping reduce the strain on our COVID Hospitals. One additional SMC Covid Wellness Center to be dedicated for SMC frontline workers, he said.

Mr Mattu said that in addition to two general COVID Wellness Centers set up by SMC, he has asked SMC to convert one of our Community Centers into a COVID Wellness Center for our SMC Employees and frontline workers. Location being finalized. We are duty-bound to take care of our frontline workers, he said.

However, the SMC Mayor said Srinagar COVID hospitals are witnessing avoidable referrals of COVID patients with mild or moderate symptoms and normal 02 saturations from other District Hospitals.

Meanwhile, Professor & Head Chest Medicine GMC Srinagar Dr Naveed Shah, who participated in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Man-ki-Baat latest episode, in a tweet said “Remdesvir and tocilizumab are no magic bullets for covid . Studies indicate Remdesvir reduces hospital stay have no effect on mortality..indicated in severe/oxygen dependent cases only in hospitalised cases..don't get panicky”.
