Rahul calls for monetary assistance to fleeing migrants

New Delhi, Apr 20: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday reminded the Centre of its responsibility towards the fleeing migrants saying it should extend financial assistance to them.

Taking to Twitter, Mr Gandhi said, 'Migrants are migrating once again. In such a situation, it is the responsibility of the central government to add money to their bank accounts'.

In another account he said, 'But will the government, which is busy blaming the people for the spread of the virus, take this step for the public?

Mr Gandhi's comments follow reports of several migrants fleeing Delhi in hordes for their homes yesterday soon after Delhi Minister Arvind Kejriwal announced a six-day lockdown to break the transmission chain of the virus.

Several of them feared the continuation of the restrictions beyond April 26.
