Rohingya girl found pregnant in holding centre 5 months after rape, accused held

Jammu: In bizarre incident, a minor Rohingya girl was found to be pregnant in holding center at Hiranagar in district Kathua, five months after she was allegedly raped by a youth.
“The 15-years –old victim developed pain, following which she was immediately shifted for the medical checkup. During the checkup, the doctors found about her pregnancy and reveal that she is five month pregnant,” an official deputed in the detention center told The News Now.
“She was allegedly raped by 21-year-old youth in Trikuta Nagar area of Jammu,” police official said quoting the statements of victim.
He informed that police immediately swung into action and secured the arrest of accused from the Trikuta Nagar Area of Jammu.
In the month of March, the Jammu and Kashmir administration on rounded up 168 Rohingya refugees, including women and children, from Jammu and shifted them holding centres under the Foreigners Act in the Hiranagar sub-jail in Kathua for not having valid documents.
“The victim was shifted to holding centre for not having valid document while the victim was arrested from Trikuta Nagar area of Jammu,” official said.
Confirming the reports, SSP Kathua Romesh Chander said that accused has been booked under POSCO Act and further investigation is on.
It is pertinent to mention here that the holding centres with a capacity to hold 250 people were set up by a Home Department notification on under Section 3(2)e of Foreigners Act.
“After sending them to the holding centres, nationality verification will be done as per the prescribed process,” the official had added, saying that on the basis of this, the procedure for deportation will be initiated.
Sources said the refugees were brought from Jammu to the sub-jail in buses. The sub-jail had been prepared for keeping the Rohingya refugees “staying illegally” nearly a week ago, when all the prisoners and undertrials lodged there were shifted to other jails.
According to a senior police officer, all the refugees were living in J&K without valid documents.
