With 5 fatalities, death toll breaches 2K mark

517 new cases, highest in 2021

Jammu: With five fresh fatalities due to COVID-19, the death toll breaches 2000 mark in Jammu and Kashmir while 517 new cases reported the Union Territory, which is highest single day spike of the year 2021.
“With five fresh fatalities including 4 from Kashmir region and one from Jammu, the toll has reached to 2003. Out of total fatalities, 1265 (63.15%) from Kashmir region and 738 from Jammu region,” an official told The News Now.
Giving further breakup, official said “Out of 1,265 deaths from Kashmir, 473 are alone were from Srinagar which is 37.39 percent of the total deaths in Kashmir division.”
He added “Out of 738 deaths in Jammu region, 381 are from Jammu district only which is 51.6 percent deaths in the region.”
The figures stated that in Kashmir division, Shopian with 40 and in Jammu division, Reasi with 16 have lowest deaths in their respective divisions.
“Baramulla and Budgam district have 181 and 120 deaths respectively while as rest of the districts in both division have below 100 deaths,” the figures reveal.
Among 517 fresh cases, 96 were from the Jammu region and 421 from the Kashmir region of the union territory.
The officials said Srinagar district recorded the highest of 173 COVID-19 cases, including 46 travellers, followed by 88 in Budgam district, 86 in Baramulla district and 62 in Jammu.
Three districts did not report any fresh cases, while eight other districts had cases in single digits. Anantnag, Kulgam, Kupwara, Bandipora and Kathua were the other districts to register cases in double digits.
The number of active cases has now reached 3,215 in the union territory, while 1,26,720 patients have recovered so far, the officials said.
The death toll in the union territory due to the pandemic is 2,003 as five fresh deaths -- four from Kashmir and one form Jammu -- were reported in the past 24 hours in the union territory.
With 171 more recoveries, the tally of total recoveries in Jammu and Kashmir has reached to 126,720 which is 96.04 percent of the total cases.
“Cases tested positive in J&K include 173 from Srinagar, 86 from Baramulla, 88 from Budgam, 04 from Pulwama, 12 from Kupwara, 12 from Anantnag, 14 from Bandipora, 09 from Ganderbal, 21 from Kulgam and 02 from Shopian in Kashmir division while as 96 from Jammu division include 62 from Jammu, 01 from Udhampur, 07 from Rajouri, 06 from Doda, 14 from Kathua, 03 from Samba, 00 from Kishtwar, 00 from Poonch, 03 from Ramban and 00 from Reasi," officials disclosed.
As per officials figures, 29,392 positive cases including 473 deaths and 27,662 recoveries are from Srinagar, 9,010 including 181 deaths and 8,345 recoveries are from Baramulla, 8,322 including 7,942 recoveries and 120 deaths are from Budgam, 6,006 including 5,831 recoveries and 92 deaths are from Pulwama, 5,829 including 97 deaths and 5,645 recoveries are from Kupwara, 5,206 including 5,044 recoveries and 96 deaths are from Anantnag, 4,782 cases including 4,672 and 63 deaths are from Bandipora, 4,732 including 4,647 recoveries and 49 deaths are from Ganderbal, 2,869 including 2,707 recoveries and 54 deaths are from Kulgam and 2,653 including 2,591 recoveries and 40 deaths are from Shopian.
In Jammu division, 26,035 including 25,112 recoveries and 381 deaths are from Jammu district, 4,366 including 4,277 recoveries and 58 deaths are from Udhampur, 3,906 including 3,827 recoveries and 56 deaths are from Rajouri, 3,462 including 3,388 recoveries and 64 deaths are from Doda, 3,364 including 3,239 recoveries and 53 deaths are from Kathua, 2,870 including 2,807 recoveries and 41 deaths are from Samba, 2,756 including 2,717 recoveries and 22 deaths are from Kishtwar, 2,551 including 2,508 recoveries and 26 deaths are from Poonch, 2,162 including 2,117 recoveries and 21 deaths are from Ramban and 1,665 including 1,642 recoveries and 16 deaths are from Reasi.
As per the daily information bulletin 1,524,644 persons in Jammu and Kashmir are under observation while 41,614 persons have been kept under home quarantine besides that 3,215 persons are in isolation.
According to the bulletin, 1,353,922 persons have completed surveillance period and 123,890 persons are under home surveillance besides that so far results of 6,130,386 samples are available. Out of 6,130,386 the number of samples tested negative stands at 5,998,448 while as 131,938 have tested positive, among them 3,215persons are active, 126,720 persons have recovered and 2,003 persons have died.
