Srinagar, Sep 16: Alert troops foiled yet another infiltration bid by militants from Pakistan-occupied- Kashmir (PoK) in Gurez sector in the north Kashmir district of Bandipora, a defence ministry spokesman said.

He said that acting on a specific input of Jammu and Kashmir police that some militants will try to infiltrate into this side from PoK, patrolling was further intensified.

However, suspicious movement was detected by alert troops guarding the Line of Control (LoC) on September 14 in Gurez sector, which is surrounded by PoK from three sides.

Col Rajesh Kalia said that contact was established and the suspected militants were fired upon by the security forces.

“Aggressive and timely action by security forces foiled an infiltration bid from PoK”, he said.

He said during the joint operation in the area war like stores, including one assault rifle with four magazines and 135 rounds of ammunition, three pistols with five magazines and 120 rounds, one GPS, four meters of Cortex and four rucksacks were recovered.

Senior Army officers and Director General of Police (DGP) have said that a large number trained militants are waiting in launch pads to sneak into this side before the infiltration routes are closed due to heavy snowfall during the winter.

They said Pakistani troops are violating ceasefire at the LoC only to help militants to sneak into this side.

However, they said, troops guarding the LoC are always on high alert to foil these infiltration attempts.
