Jammu: The District Election Officer (DEO) Ramban today suspended the dealership licences of four government fair price shops for violating Model Code of Conduct (MCC) by participating in the rally of the political party in assembly constituency Banihal.
According to four separate orders issued by the DEO Baseer-Ul-Haq Chaudhary, who is also the district nodal officer, MCC Ramban, the licences of four government fair price shop (FPS) dealers, identified as Manzoor Ahmad having FPS Hinjhal-A, Bashir Ahmed with FPS at Fagow, Abdul Rashid with FPS at Gagra Gundi and Abdul Aziz having FPS at Nowkoot-B have been suspended with immediate and they were debarred to retain the custody of fair price shop.
“The government fair price shop dealer is the custodian of food grains which is given to them for disbursement among the masses of specific territorial extent. There is every apprehension that such dealer(s) may show favouritism to a particular candidate or party on account of their mens rea,” the DEO said in his orders while taking swift action on the violation of MCC to uphold electoral integrity and impartiality.
The DEO said such an act during the enforcement of MCC is a breach of guidelines promulgated by the Election Commission of India which invites corrective and remedial measures.
“The licences were suspended for violating the Representation of the Peoples Act, 1950 and Section 28-A of the Representation of the People Act-1951,” the DEO stated.
