Apni Party-PC ‘camaraderie’ becomes game changer…!
NC upset, in doldrums over choice of candidates …!! Saroj Razdan. Updated: 4/8/2024 2:38:44 AM |
Jammu: In the psychological warfare between political parties over choice of candidates for LS constituencies seen predominantly this time across UT, it is the emergence of ‘camaraderie’ between Peoples Conference and Apni Party which has upset National Conference. While all others have showed up cards on 3 constituencies of Kashmir, NC is still in doldrums over taking final decision.
Even as NC high command confidently announced Mian Altaf’s name for Anantnag constituency few days back, it is overtly very cautious in declaring the names, though shortlisted ones are already doing rounds in the political corridors.
Mian Altaf’s choice for Anantnag seat was perhaps the only name as confirmed choice months before even among opponents. Rivals often sneer at this as not a candidate of NC but more of ‘influencer’ on religious lines who has the capacity to give very tough fight to any opponent. As for the two other seats, NC is cautiously treading the path not because it has limited choice of candidates, but more because of changing dynamics of political leanings, if not formal alliances seen on the ground.
Sources said while NC leadership was not very keen on PDP’s choice of candidates, it is certainly disturbed now because of smaller parties trying to come together and support each other on other two constituencies. The psychological techniques of Apni Party, PC and DPAP has browbeaten its calculations thought earlier when Omar very confidently announced it will contest on all the 3 seats alone, though both PDP and Congress tried to convince it for ‘friendly’ arrangement in vain.
Sources said ApniParty ,no matter quite junior in front of NC has been playing its cards well and there is an ‘understandable’ yet secret push from New Delhi to stitch the support game in a manner that NC doesn’t emerge beneficiary on any of the seats. This ‘game’ looks evident when Apni Party has chosen to remain silent for Baramulla seat which implies it will extend support to PC’s Sajjad Lone on this constituency.
This has apparently disturbed NC as the party was exploring Omar to test waters from north Kashmir other than names of Choudhary Ramzan and Aga Ruhulla. The worry is now more for the fact that Apni Party ‘friendship’ with PC will not only disturb electoral patterns on Baramulla seat, it will also impact things on Srinagar seat which has remained traditional bastion for decades, though Omar has seen loss on this as well and win by very thin margin in 2014.
