Jammu: Buoyed with great show in Karnataka assembly elections Congress high command has devised strategy for ensuing Jammu and Kashmir’s Urban Local Bodies (ULB) and Panchyat elections, with the local leadership from the Union Territory.
As per party insiders over dozen of JKPCC leaders are invited in Delhi to discuss the actual ground situation of Jammu and Kashmir, with top leadership and party’s social media teams, for making an aggressive and technology driven campaign to ‘expose the hoax development and peace narrative of ruling BJP’.
Back to back meetings have been organized to design the camp for upcoming ULB and panchayat elections, as the five year term of both these bodies is nearing to end later this year.
Party leader said that national leadership met and discuss its upcoming strategy with core group of J&K Congress, consisting of Member Parliament and J&K in- charge, Rajni Patil, JKPCC President Viqar Rasool Wani, Working President Raman Bhalla, senior leaders Gulam Ahmed Mir, Taroq Ahmed Karra and Tara Chand.
“All India Congress Committee (AICC) General Secretary Incharge Organization K C Venugopal MP also chaired a meeting of senior leadership of Jammu and Kashmir and took stock of the overall situation especially the preparedness for the upcoming elections to the ULB and Panchayats due to be held later this year,” party spokesperson said.
However, party sources said that several others meetings were also conducted by national leadership with senior Congress leaders including former PCC president Peezada Mohd Sayeed, Ex Dy CM Tara Chand, Mula Ram, Th BalwanSingh, GN Monga, Neeraj Kundan and chief spokesperson Ravinder Sharma in addition to party’s core group.
Sources said that the aim of these meetings was mainly to know the overall ground situation, follow up of January’s Bharat Joda Yatra and progress of the party's mass connect programme, so that Congress could chalk-out an aggressive plan to corner the BJP led government in J&K.
Party spokesperson said that General Secretary AICC told the J&K leaders to further gear up the activities and preparations for the upcoming elections to ULB and Panchayats in a coordinated manner besides continue raising the public issues in a forceful manner and expose the BJP’s wrong policies.
When contacted, Senior Congress leader and J&K in- charge, Rajni Patil said that the party reviewed the preparations for local bodies’ polls with leaders from Jammu & Kashmir.
“We have also told them to prepare for Assembly elections if they are held,” she said, adding that the organizational issues also came up for discussion during the issue.
Moreover, the Congress party’s meeting was held at a time when there are indications that the Election Commission of India is unlikely to hold assembly polls in Jammu & Kashmir in 2023. However, Urban Local Bodies and Panchayats would complete their five-year term between October 2023 to January 09, 2024.
There are strong chances that district development councils would also be dissolved when the term of Panchayats and Block Development Councils ends. The local polls are expected to be held in September- October after the conclusion of Amarnath Yatra in August.
