Amid attempts to revive militancy in Jmu Army chief reviews security

Jammu: Amid desperate attempts of terrorist organizations to revive militancy in the ‘relatively peaceful’ Jammu region, Army Chief General Manoj Pande has landed at ground zero and review the overall security scenario of area came under the command of Nogrota based 16 Corps.
As per military sources, Chief of Army Staff (COAS) reached Jammu on a two-day visit on Friday to take stock of the prevailing security situation on borders and hinterland.
On the first day, the Army Chief accompanied by Lieutenant General Upendra Dwivedi, Army Commander of Udhampur based Northern Command and Lieutenant General Manjinder Singh, GOC of White Knight Corps, visited 16 Corps headquarters and chaired the security review meeting.
The top military commanders briefed Army Chief regarding prevailing challenges and preparations of troops to deal with it.
Sources said that revival of militancy in the Jammu region was also discussed during the top commanders meeting, where officers were asked to keep a hawk eye on the activities of suspected persons in their Area of Responsibility.
On Saturday (Second Day) the Army Chief visited the forward areas along the Line of Control (LoC) in the Poonch and Rajouri districts and reviewed the operational preparedness of troops.
“General Pande reviewed the operational preparedness of troops and also interacted with all ranks, a defence spokesperson informed.
“General Manoj Pande, #COAS visited the forward areas of Poonch & Rajouri Sectors and reviewed the operational preparedness along Line of Control. #COAS also interacted with all ranks & exhorted them to keep working with the same zeal & enthusiasm,” the Additional Directorate General of Public Information (ADGPI) of the Indian Army tweeted.
The visit of Army Chief came days after Jammu Kashmir Police claimed that terrorist organizations attempting to revive militancy in Jammu region.
Earlier in the day, Police arrested two accused involved in August 2 blast near a Police Post in Gool, Ramban district. Police spokesperson said that both accused belonged to Ghaznavi Force and received 50,000 each to revive militancy.
In July, JKP busted terror modules operated by banned organization Lashker-e-Toiba (LeT), which had been tasked to carry out attacks in Jammu and transport arms to Kashmir.
Additional Director General of Police (ADPG), Jammu Zone, Mukesh Singh said police had tracked five modules and arrested 20 to 25 persons for their terror links.
“The sleeper cells were activated. LeT is trying to reactivate terrorists, their links or surrendered LeT terrorists,” he said.
“These terrorists were continuously trying to increase their activi- ties in Jammu.”
Singh said that targeted killing was one of their motives in Jammu province as they had recovered a pistol with a silencer.
However, he ruled out the possibility of the existence of a new terror module.
