As the preparations for the assembly elections for Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir are reportedly underway, the government has ordered deployment of staff in this regard directing the respective Deputy Commissioners to deploy the staff for the exercise.
Sources said that the School Education Department has deployed its 30 teachers in the district Jammu for the crucial exercise in view of the reorganization of the electoral data as per the Delimitation Order and upcoming Special Summer Revision 2022.
“The deployment has been made on the directions of the Deputy Commissioner Jammu Avny Lavasa, who is also District Electoral Officer,” sources maintained.
The order assessed by The News Now read, “In reference to the subject, kindly find enclosed herewith the list of officials of school education department who are required to be deployed with the Electoral Registration officers/ Assistant Electoral Registration officers in connection with the ongoing crucial exercise of the reorganization of the electoral data as per the Delimitation Order and upcoming Special Summer Revision 2022”
“The preparations for the assembly elections expected to be announced soon are in full swing as it is the prerogative of the Election Commission of India to make the final announcement,” said an official.
Jammu and Kashmir has been without a ‘popular government’ since November 2018 when the Legislative Assembly was dissolved and Governor rule was imposed with Satya Pal Malik headed the administration after the fall-out of PDP-BJP coalition government.
The Centre as well as the Lieutenant Governor administration has been saying that the assembly elections in the UT would be conducted after the process of delimitation and electoral revision is completed.
The delimitation of constituencies is already completed and the Election Commission began the process of electoral rolls revision in the Union Territory last month — an exercise taking place after a gap of three years and for the first time since the abrogation of J-K’s special status in August 2019.
The officials said, “there are indications that polls could be held in the UT after the electoral rolls revision is completed but, as directed, the preparations are underway.”
“The delimitation has been completed. The electoral rolls revision is on and likely to be completed soon. The EC has set October 31 as the final date for publication of the revised electoral rolls,” they added.
