Jammu: Aiming to boost morale of party cadre ahead of possible assembly polls as well as to seize Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP’s) led government’s ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ campaign, ongress party is all set to launch a full-blown campaign by holding a series of ‘Trianga Yatra’ between August 9 to August 14 in all 90 assembly segments of Jammu and Kashmir.
As per sources in Congress, the grand old party, which is struggling for its survival will organize ‘Trianga Yatra’ at all 20 district headquarters and all 90 assembly segments across Jammu and Kashmir , where leaders tasked to address gatherings and make attempt to connect with masses,”
“Congress carries a rich history of sacrifices. Party played a great role in the country's freedom struggle. Ahead of Independence we will go to the masses and retold them our tales,” said Jagdev Gaga, National General Secretary of Indian Youth Congress, who chaired workers meeting to chalk out strategy for Trianga Yatra and party’s other programs scheduled in the run-up of Independence day.
Termed Congress party’s Trianga rallies as important activity to connect people, Gaga said, “It is the responsibility of every worker of the party to ensure maximum participation of the people in rallies,” adding, “The rallies are best way to communicate with masses and inform them about the historical legacy of oldest and the only party of the country which took part in the freedom struggle.”
Another Congress leader said that as a matter of policy shift the national leadership has decided to aggressively counter BJP’s campaigns.
“Party leadership holds brainstorming sessions with local leaders and devises a strategy to counter BJP’s campaigns which not only hold significance in Jammu and Kashmir but helps the saffron party to demonize Congress in other states too,” a Congress leader said on anonymity.
“The party made a strategic shift and decided not to oppose all campaigns of BJP but to hold parallel crusades, so that the BJP can’t able to sweep with all the credits,” he added.
“We see nothing wrong in celebrations of Independence Day. Moreover, the country's national flag belongs to every countryman, it’s not patronized with any particular political party or groups. So instead of picking faults and flaws in the union government’s ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ campaign, Congress decided to add-on it with its own Tiranga Yatra across J&K,” said Rickey Dalotra, vice president Pradesh Youth Congress.
He added through this campaign the party will establish contact with masses and reactivate its cadre.
Meanwhile, Jammu and Kashmir possibly heading towards much awaited assembly polls in later this year with Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh. The summary revision of electoral rolls and other allied works going on in the election department, after the submission of a delimitation report.
Previously, Congress was the only political party of erstwhile Jammu and Kashmir, which enjoyed acceptance in Jammu, Kashmir as well as Ladakh regions. However due to in-flight and groupism, the grand old party struggled hard to make a comeback in electoral politics.

J&K receive surplus rains
as monsoon picks up pace
NAVNEET DUBEY
Jammu: The rain gods have been kind this ongoing monsoon season in Jammu and Kashmir, especially in the month of July as it has received 571 mm rainfall in Jammu which is about 250 mm more than the normal. Moreover the meteorological department has also predicted good rainfall in the month of August as well.
Monsoon arrived in the plains of J&K’s Jammu division on June 30, with the meteorological department predicting normal rainfall across UT this season, which is likely to stay here till mid September.
The monsoon accounts for around 70 per cent of the country's annual rainfall and irrigates 60 per cent of its net sown area. Nearly half of India's population depends on agriculture directly or indirectly.
However, in July, the rainfall occurring on a daily basis has also led to worries among farmers, as it has resulted in water logging in their farms. As per agriculture experts, the non-stop rain is not helpful to crops and a gap for one or two days between spells is ideal. The rain in intervals gives the water more time to dry and helps in crop growth.
Jammu is receiving rainfall on a daily basis in July, especially in the morning hours it has become a sort of routine. The morning rain however comes with its woes, as water logging leads to traffic snarls causing hardships to office goers. The frequent rain has also pushed up the prices of fruits and vegetables. This season the region has also seen frequent flash floods triggered by heavy downpour.
Last week rain in Jammu city has wreaked havoc, as water entered many houses and business establishments in the low lying areas.
It also rained on Monday morning. Due to the rains in the upper areas, there is a danger of flooding in the river Chenab, Ujj, Tawi and other river tributaries.
In the last 24 hours, Bhaderwah recorded 7.5 mm of rain. Batote 2.2 and Katra 3.4 mm. In Kashmir division, Srinagar recorded 9.2 mm, Qazigund 12.8 mm, Pahalgam 31.4 mm, Kupwara 13.2 mm, Kukranag 8.8 mm, Gulmarg 6.0 mm. Jammu 6.8, Banihal 21.9, Batote 2.2, Bhaderwah 7.5 mm of rain was recorded.
“There is possibility of scattered to fairly widespread light to moderate rain/thundershower over Jammu & Kashmir Divisions in next 24 hours,” the meteorological department said, adding, “There is possibility of isolated to scattered light rain and thunder for subsequent two days.”
