Lt Gen Joshi set to be next Northern Army Commander

JAMMU: Kargil war Hero Lieutenant General Yogesh Kumar Joshi is all set to take over as the next General Officer Commanding-in-Chief (GOC-in-C) of Indian Army’s Northern Command.
While an official confirmation is this regard is awaited, army sources inform that Joshi, who is currently posted as the Chief of staff of the Northern Command will take over from incumbent Lt Gen Ranbir Singh, when retires at the end of this month.
Hailing from Haryana, Lieutenant General Yogesh Kumar Joshi was commissioned into 13 Jammu and Kashmir Rifles before serving as the Director General of Infantry and ADG of Military Operations Branch in the Army HQ prior to his appointment as the 17th Commander, XIV Corps or Fire and Fury Corps of the Indian Army on 31 August 2018.
Joshi was recently posted as the Chief of staff of the Northern Command.
Known as the Kargil hero, Joshi, then a Lt colonel had led 13th Battalion of the JAK Rif in Drass.
His battalion launched four successful attacks, including the one to Pt 4875 which is now called Batra Top after Captain Vikram Batra who laid down his life and was awarded the Param Vir Chakra.
His battalion was awarded a total of seven Gallantry medals during Kargil War including two Param Vir Chakras, eight Vir Chakras (including him) and fourteen Sena Medals.
