“Mubarak”, “Badhai” messages flashed internet service restored

Jammu: Jammu on Thursday night was jubilation mood and messages of ‘Mubarak’ and ‘Badhai’ were flashed on social media by the people after 2G mobile internet service was restored in five districts of Jammu region only on post paid cell phones.
Messages like “Badhai ho…internet chal pada”, “finally, we have connected again,”, “badhaiiiiiiii, aub ayega maza”, “hurray, internet restored,”, hit the social applications like Facebook, Whatsapp and Twitter after mobile internet with 2G speed was restored on Thursday night in five districts of Jammu region.
Mobile internet was snapped in Jammu and Kashmir on August 4, 2019 a day before the Government of India abrogated Article 370 and bifurcated the state into two Union Territories (J&K & Ladakh).
The Jammu and Kashmir Government spokesman on Wednesday had said that 2G service on post paid mobile phones will be restored only for accessing white listed websites but restrictions on social media shall continue.
The administration will also begin the phase-wise restoration of broadband services in Kashmir Valley, said an official.
“2G mobile connectivity on post-paid mobiles for accessing white listed websites such as e-banking shall be allowed in the districts of Jammu, Samba, Kathua, Udhampur and Reasi,” Rohit Kansal, Government Spokesman here told media on Wednesday evening.
He said that there shall be complete restriction on social media applications.
It is well established that sustained efforts are being made by terrorists to infiltrate from across the border, reactivate their cadres and scale up anti national activities not only in the Kashmir Division but some areas of Jammu Division by using Voice on Internet Protocol (VOIP) and encrypted mobile communications and through various social media applications to coordinate and plan terrorist activities, he maintained.
Meanwhile people of Jammu, Udhampur and Kathua, exchanged messages and expressed happiness over restoration of the service terming it as a ‘welcome step’.
Some said, “der aaye darust aye” (its better to be late than never), asserting that mobile internet is need of the hour as it will benefit students, bankers, traders and all those who are dependable on internet for their routine working.
Pertinent to mention here that many people have also applied for new landline connections and some restored disconnected connections to avail broadband facility, which was not suspended in Jammu district.
As per official, thousands of people applied for new broadband and fibre connections in view of snapped mobile internet service, which are being installed in phased manner.
