Hizbul militant killed, LeT terror associate arrested

SRINAGAR: A local militant belonging to Hizb-ul-Mujahideen terrorist outfit was killed in a brief encounter with security forces in Budgam district on Monday, even as a terrorist associate of proscribed outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba was arrested in Ganderbal.
Foiling a major terror plot in Baramulla district, the security forces found a 2 kg Improvised Explosive Device (IED) placed under a bridge.
In the second encounter in past 24 hours, the security forces neutralised a local militant in an encounter in Budgam district on Monday.
“Security forces launched a cordon and search operation in Behrampura area of district Budgam following information about the presence of militants there,” a police spokesman said.
During the search operation, the lone militant fired on the search party. The fire was retaliated leading to an encounter.
“In the ensuing encounter, the ultra was killed and the body was retrieved from the site of encounter,” he said.
The slain militant has been identified as Adil Gulzar Ganie resident of Dalvan Char-i-Shareef, Budgam.
The killed terrorist as per police records was affiliated with proscribed terror outfit Hizb-ul-Mujahideen and was wanted by law for his complicity in terror crimes including attacks on security establishments and civilian atrocities, he said.
According to the police records, he had a history of terror crime records since 2019 and was part of groups involved in planning & executing terror attacks in the area and many other civilian atrocities. Several terror crime cases were registered against him including Case FIR No. 02/2019 of PS Char-i-Shareef.
Incriminating material including arms & ammunition were recovered from the site of encounter.
This was the second encounter in Valley in past 24 hours.
On Sunday, top commander of Hizbul Mujahideen, Hamad Khan, and his two associates—Faizan Hamid, and Adil Bashir Mir were killed in Tral area of South Kashmir’s Pulwama district.
Meanwhile, Police in Ganderbal arrested a terrorist associate.
He has been identified as Tariq Ahmad Ganaie resident of Fraw Haknar, Gund District Ganderbal.
As per police records he has been assisting the active terrorists of proscribed outfit LeT operating in the areas of District Ganderbal.
During the course of investigation of Case FIR No. 69/2019, pertaining to the encounter at Kullan Ganderbal in which a Pakistani terrorist was killed, it was learnt that Tariq Ganai had provided help and assistance to an active terrorist Nisar Dar & transported him away to Sumbal area after he had escaped from the encounter site at Kullan Ganderbal.
Meanwhile, security forces on Monday foiled a big terror plot in Kashmir's Sopore town when they recovered a 2 kg Improvised Explosive Device (IED) placed under a bridge.
“The IED was recovered at Rafiabad. The joint operation was conducted by police and Army,” a police official said, adding further investigations were going on.
