Illegal material extraction: 15 vehicles seized in Shopian

SHOPIAN, DECEMBER 11: As many as 15 vehicles were seized for carrying material extracted illegally in the district here today.
Under the instructions of Deputy Commissioner Shopian, Choudhary Mohammad Yasin. Various teams launched a drive to enforce ban on illegal material extraction from streams in the district.
During the drive 15 trucks loaded with illegally extracted sand, gravel and boulders were confiscated. These trucks were carrying material extracted from Nallah Rambi Ara.
On the occasion, the DC said that legal action will be taken against those involved in the illegal material extraction. He said that the extraction of sand, gravel and boulders would be allowed only at the locations which are identified by the Department of Geology and Mining.
Due to illegal extraction of sand, gravel and boulders from the streams and nallahs not only Government is losing revenue but the constructed protection bunds on the streams and nallahs also get damaged, he added.
