B2V: Experience and Expectations

The 'Back to Village-2' (B2V2) programme is being organised from November 25 to 30 with a senior government official asserting that its fundamental objective is empowerment and development of panchayats. The first phase of the first-of-its-kind initiative to reach out to the people at the grassroots level was last held from June 20 to 27 across 4,483 panchayats, which witnessed tremendous response from the public. As Back to Village-2 has started last day, Monday, Jammu City visited different villages of Jammu to check the people reaction on B2V-1 and their expectations from (B2V2).

Reduces communication gap: Madan Lal
Back to Village version one was a big success for J&K administration and for the people of villages as well. This is an opportunity to directly interact with officers who will listen to our problems and demands and then take actions. Earlier it was only one-way communication where we used to raise our problem by our self but there was no response from administration side, but Back to Village filled that gap. We are hoping that B2V-2 will also achieve success like B2V-1

B2V1 was a success: Ichaya Bhagat
Most of our demands are being fulfilled. Back to village one was like a festival for us, where all the stake holders get something- be it the villagers or the field officer. All of our demands are being fulfilled, and we are hopeful that B2V-2 will help us more. Health, education and road connectivity, employment opportunities are some of the indicators for the development of a village, I think back to village is increasing the potential of a village, beyond its expectations.

Opportunity to Highlight: Jyoti Mottal
Being a lady sarpanch, it is very difficult for me to visit each and every office by myself. But Back to Village gave us a platform, where we do not have to visit offices but officers with the power visit our village, panchayat. B2V strengthen our voices and gave us an opportunity where our issues be heard directly by the officers. Although many of our problems are not solved even 6 months after B2V-1 but still, I think, this is a great initiative being taken by J&K administration.

No expected Results: Som Nath Dogra
We expected much but did not get fruitful results. Before B2V-1, when we heard that government of Jammu and Kashmir is going to organise this kind of initiative, we were very excited. Along with all the Panchs’ and Sarpanch people of my village participated in B2V-1 enthusiastically. They interacted with the officer, explained their problems, represented their demands, but we did not get the expected results. We were hoping that our problems will get solved this time.
