6-year-old raped, killed in Samba; accused held

JAMMU: In an incident shaming the human values, a six-year-old tribal girl, hailing from Madhya Pradesh, was allegedly raped and killed by a youth from her own community in Samba district.
The 23-year-old accused, identified as Vishal alias "Chotu", was arrested and booked in the case.
The incident took place at a slum inhabited by a group of labourers from Madhya Pradesh in the phase 3rd of SIDCO industrial area of Rakhamtali late on Monday.
Police said that the incident came to limelight after a person informed police that a minor girl’s body was laid inside a shanty.
“After receiving the information, a team was rushed to the spot which recovered the body,” SSP Samba Shakti Pathak said, adding that the girl’s mouth was duct taped and there were bruises on her body which showed physical assault upon her.
“The minor's body was recovered from inside a shanty and subsequently the accused was arrested in the wee hours of Tuesday,” said Pathak, adding, “the post-mortem of the body was conducted at the district hospital this morning.”
The accused lured the girl, allegedly raped her and later strangulated her to death, the official said.
“The accused—Vishal admitted that she lured the girl, raped her and later strangulated her to death. He informed police that the girl was resisting and was shouting, following which he duct-taped her mouth,” the SSP said.
