SRINAGAR: For the first time after his detention after scrapping of Article 370, former chief minister and National Conference (NC) chief Farooq Abdullah stepped out of his house on Tuesday, for a medical checkup.

The senior Abdullah who has been detained under the controversial Public Safety Act (PSA), was taken to a private clinic here after he complained of a toothache, credible sources said.

The dentist, who visited Farooq at his Gupkar-road residence, now turned into sub-jail, expressed his inability to treat the senior leader inside the house and informed the authorities of the same, they said.

“Farooq was then taken to a private clinic in Srinagar,” they said.

“He would need four to six appointments with the dentists as he has to undergo root canal,” he added.

Abdullah was earlier under house arrest at his residence since the night of August 4, hours before the Centre abrogated Article 370 and bifurcated the state into two Union Territories.

Later, he was booked under the PSA. Farooq’s son and former chief minister Omar Abdullah is also under detention at Hari Niwas since August 4 even as another former chief minister Mehbooba Mufti has also been detained ever since-- first at Hari Niwas and later shifted to Chesmashahi hut in Srinagar.
