Jammu Ropeway Project Stuck in admin hurdles, JKSCCL awaits tech nod since 4 months

JAMMU: It seems that Jammu Ropeway Project is far from reality as the same is stuck between administrative hurdles. Ironically, the project is ready from since last four months but Jammu & Kashmir State Cable CAR Corporation Limited (JKSCCL) yet to receive the clearance from technical committee constituted by state government.
“The project is completely ready even today I took ride on the Ropeway. We are just waiting the clearance from the committee constituted by the government,” Chairman, JKSCCL, Shamim Ahamd told The News Now.
“Once we receive the clearance from the committee, we will inaugurate and make the Jammu ropeway project operational,” he added.
“Best reasons for the delay in clearance are known to the committee members, we have completed our task,” Ahamd said.
The trial run and pre-commissioning on ropeway project was conducted on May 29th, 2019.
The project was earlier scheduled to be thrown open in February this year by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi but could not be inaugurated after a trolley ferrying laborers and engineers collapsed causing death of four persons.
Pertinently on September 26, union government had approved four more cable car projects-- two each in Jammu division and Kashmir division respectively to boost the tourist footfall in in Jammu and Kashmir.
The decision of centre government came after the team of Union Culture and Tourism Ministry toured the state following Prime Minister Narendra Modi led government decision to abrogate special state of the state.
“Central government has in principle agreed to provide viability gap funding for two new cable car projects each for Jammu and Kashmir divisions to boost footfall of tourists in the existing and new tourist destinations,” Principal Secretary, Tourism Department, Navin Kumar Chaudhary had said while participating in the Board meetings of JKTDC, J&K State Cable Car Corporation and SKICC.
He added that in this regard Managing Director (MD) of Jammu and Kashmir Cable Car Corporation (JKCCC) Shamim Ahmad has been directed to identify four tourist and pilgrim destinations and submit feasibility reports.
Presently, the J&KCCCL, has five functional projects including Gulmarg Gondola Project (Section-I running from Gulmarg to Kongdori) and Section-II from Kongdori to Apharwat, Kongdori Chairlift running from Kongdori to Marry-shoulder, Makhdoom Sahib Ropeway Project at Srinagar, Pahalgam Ski lift and Patnitop cable car project- which was completed by Empyrean Skyview Projects Private Limited in a Public-Private Partnership.
