JAMMU: The State Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) leaders and prominent Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) members Monday met Union Home Minister Amit Shah and other senior officials of Ministry of Home Affairs and discussed with them the policies and the future course of action ahead of Jammu and Kashmir’s bifurcation into two Union Territories (UTs).

The discussions with BJP president were also held on the upcoming elections of Block Development Council (BDC).

BJP State president Ravinder Raina informed Shah about present scenario on the ground in state and party’s preparations for BDC polls, top sources told The News Now.

“Apart from the BDC polls, the issues like BJP’s future policy especially after October 31, when the state will be officially bifurcated in two UTs were also discussed in the meeting,” they said.

Other BJP leaders included General Secretary (Organisation) Ashok Koul, Sunil Sethi and Sat Sharma.

The prominent leaders of RSS from the region were also among those who met Shah, they added.

“The BJP leaders assured Shah that the party workers are fully prepared for BDC elections and will win with significant margin,” sources said, adding, “They also informed that the masses are happy with polices adopted by BJP-led government.”

Pertinently, BJP has decided to field 280 candidates out of 316 seats in Block Development Council elections.

"We have decided to fight the BDC elections from 280 seats in Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh. We have finalised the list of our candidates and are hopeful of a clean sweep in the elections," state BJP president Ravinder Raina had said.

The BDC elections are scheduled to be held on October 24.

If sources to be believed, the RSS members chalked out strategy with Union Home Minister to enhance their presence in Jammu and Kashmir.

“RSS is on an expansion mode in Jammu and Kashmir since early this year. Besides expansion plans, the top leadership of the RSS also endorses delimitation of Assembly constituencies in the state soon which would subsequently benefit the Jammu region by giving it more seats than Kashmir,” sources said.
