JAMMU: After deliberating upon various options to meet water shortage in Jammu, the government has finally approved 32 ‘dedicated feeders’ for providing independent power supply lines to the PHE Department as the department has been facing public wrath for not providing regular water supply to different areas of Jammu.
These 32 feeders have been approved for equal number PHE Stations (tube wells) in different areas of Jammu, reliable sources informed The News Now.
It may be mentioned that protests are being reported from different areas of Jammu against the PHE for not providing regular water supply.
These ‘Dedicated Feeders’ have been specifically approved for Jammu Urban which includes entire Jammu City and its outskirts, they said.
District Development Commissioner (DDC), Jammu, Sushma Chauhan also convened meeting of PHE Department today and asked the concerned officers to fast pace the ongoing projects and ensure regular water supply to people of Jammu City.
The ‘Dedicated Feeders’ were demanded by the PHE to ensure regular water supply as the department was unable to meet water requirements and supply regular water due to frequent power outages, sources said.
The PHE conducted a survey across Jammu, identified 32 stations/ tube wells and submitted a proposal to the government for its approval, sources said.
“The concerned authorities of PHE, in a meeting with Chief Secretary some time back, put forth their demand of ‘Dedicated Feeders’ at different tube wells/ pumping stations for providing regular water supply to the people as per the demand, especially during summers,” they said.
“The proposal has been approved by the government and sent to the Power Development Department (PDD) for its execution,” they informed.
“As of now, all the PHE stations get power supply through same feeders/lines from where the power is supplied to the people, they said adding that during peak summer season there are both scheduled and unscheduled power cuts due to which adequate water is neither lifted/stored and therefore not supplied as per the demand.
