After threadbare discussions, government has decided to adopt successful model of technical education in Maharashtra, Gujarat and Haryana.”

“The Government will wrap up Directorate of Technical Education Department or merge it with state Industries and Commerce Department,” he added.

The Industries and Commerce Department plays key role in accelerating economic activity of the state besides providing employment to the educated unemployed youths in the state. The department which is into existence in year 1970 had 4 Directorates, 8 Corporations & four training institutes including Craft Development Institute, Indian Institute of Carpet technology, J&K Entrepreneurship Development Institute, School of Designs.

“A total of 53 Industrial Training Institutes (ITI's) and 32 Polytechnics (24 Government & 8 Private) will come under the ambit of Industries and Commerce Department,” he said.

He added “The training will be imparted to youth in association with Industries and Commerce Department, so they will be provided jobs in the industries of Jammu and Kashmir.”

The Directorate of Technical Education was established in the year 1981 by the creation of a unified body for the administration and control of the Institutions imparting Technical/ Vocational Trainings in the State.

The Department is the principal agency imparting varied types of technical trainings in the State. The training activities of the Department are mainly centered in the Polytechnics and the Industrial Training Institutes (ITI's).
