DC asks concerned to raise awareness, sensitize public against single use plastic

SHOPIAN, SEPTEMBER 16: Deputy Commissioner (DC) Shopian Choudhary Mohammad Yasin today convened a meeting with the concerned officers to discuss modalities for implementation of “Swachhta Hi Seva” campaign and to mobilise communities to make the district Plastic free.
Additional District Development Commissioner, District Panchayat Officer, besides all district and senior officers and PRIs were present in the meeting.
During the meeting, the DC emphasized for ensuring maximum awareness among general masses of the district about the harmful effects of plastic use especially the single use plastic which is emerging as one of the leading reasons for environment degradation and pollution.
The DC said that the main objective of the campaign is to discourage the use of polythene carry-bags and the single use plastic. He asked the concerned to involve communities both urban and rural and put special focus on involving students for successful execution of this campaign. He said that for community engagement, organise special activities like painting and quiz competitions, sanitation drives at educational institutions, religious places, markets, parks besides focusing on rural engagement by way of PRIs.
