Received weapons consignment from Amritsar, reveals Jaish trio

JAMMU: The three Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) militants arrested on Thursday at Lakhanpur have revealed to NIA that they had received the consignment of weapons and ammunition in a bag from Amritsar in Punjab.

The local trio militants were arrested by state police at Lakhanpur along with a large cache of arms and ammunition, including 6 AK assault rifles from a truck they were travelling in.

They were identified as Sabeel Ahmed Baba, Ubaid-ul-Islam—both residents of Aghlar Kandi, Rajpora Pulwama, and Jahangir Ahmed Parray of Pakherpora Charar-e-Sharief in Budgam while the truck was registered in the name of one N.Suhil Ahmed Latoo and was driven by one Javaid Ahmed Dar, both residents of Gulshanabad, Pulwama.

“The interrogation of the trio is going on in Lakhanpur since Thursday by representatives of National Investigation Agency from Delhi.

“In the initial investigations, they have revealed that they received a bag in Amritsar which contained weapons and ammunition,” a senior police officer informed this scribe.

Earlier, the police had informed The News Now that the consignment of arms was smuggled from Shakargarh in Narowal District of Pakistan’s Punjab, and entered into the Indian Territory through Bamyal border in Pathankot.

The police officer said that no other agency, is allowed to interrogate the militants, except the NIA.

“Interrogation by other agencies is not being allowed right now. Once they are shifted in Joint Investigation Centre in Jammu only then the state police will be able to interrogate them,” he said.
