KVK Kargil organizes mela cum method demonstration on water conservation under Jal Shakti Abhiyan

KARGIL SEPTEMBER 15:- Under Jal Shakti Abhiyan (JSA) Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Kargil organized a mela cum method demonstration on water conservation here today.
Chairman and Chief Executive Councillor (CEC), LAHDC, Kargil Feroz Ahmad Khan was the chief guest on the occasion while as Assistant Secretary JSA Ayushi Sudan and S F Hamid were the guests of honour on the occasion.
During the course of the awareness programme speakers enlightened the participants about the importance of water conservation, rain and snow water harvesting, renovation of traditional and other water bodies, reuse, bore well recharge structures, watershed development and intensive afforestration and other water conservation measures for better agricultural production.
In his address the CEC while underlining the importance of JSA as a major initiative of the Government of India for ensuing increased and groundwater availability stressed on participants to contribute their bit in making judicious use of water.
The CEC also said that apart from other water conservation measures drip irrigation could also help a great deal in the optimum utilization of water for agricultural purposes. He also stressed farmers to maintain a healthy balance between the traditional and modern technologies to enhance farm output.
Assistant Secretary S F Hamid also spoke on the occasion and stressed on participants to understand the importance of water as a vital resource and work towards making its judicious use for sustainability of agriculture.
During the event several other programmes including a quiz competition, inspection of stalls of agricultural and horticulture products and field visit were conducted.
Later prizes were distributed among the winners of the quiz competition.
Among others who were present on the occasion included Prof and Head KVK Kargil Dr Ghulam Mehdi, scientists and staff of KVK Kargil, students from different educational institutions and a large number of farmers.
