No Bandh in Jammu tomorrow

JAMMU: Top business bodies in Jammu on Saturday deferred the call for a shutdown on Monday against the taxes and penalties imposed recently in various sectors, after they were assured of a meeting with Governor Satya Pal Malik on Thursday.

The Jammu Chamber of Commerce and Industries (JCCI) had threatened a one-day shutdown on Monday if their demands were not met by Sunday.

The JCCI and several other business organizations were demanding scrapping of the levy of taxes, implementation of the amended Motor Vehicle Act, and action against unabated corruption and the lack of basic amenities.

On Saturday, JCCI President Rakesh Gupta, Chairman J&K Transport Welfare Association TS Wazir, and Chairman J&K Kissan Council Rajesh Sharma, accompanied by Office Bearers of JCCI and Transport Associations met the Deputy Commissioner Jammu Sushma Chauhan, and SSP Jammu Tajinder Pal Singh.

The DC conveyed the message of the Governor to the visiting delegation that a meeting has been fixed on September 19 in Srinagar where in the Stakeholders would be invited in presence of the concern officers of the departments regarding the issues and demands have been raised for which the Jammu Bandh was announced for, a press statement issued by JCCI said.

“On the assurance of the Governor, it was decided to defer the Jammu Bandh Call for September 16 Monday,” it said.

“Future course of action shall only be decided in case the genuine demands in question are not addressed and accepted,” it said.
