DDC G’bal kick-starts Plastic Waste Management awareness prog

GANDERBAL, SEPTEMBER 11: District Development Commissioner Ganderbal, Hashmat Ali Khan, today kick-started awareness programme on Plastic Waste Management here.
President Municipal Committee Ganderbal, Advocate Altaf Ahmad Lone, ADDC, Shafqat Iqbal, ADC, Showkat Ahmad, CPO, Anika Mushtaq, district officers, councilors and senior citizens of the district were also present.
It was said that the preparations and awareness generation will continue from September 11to October 01, 2019 besides collection of plastic waste will be on 2nd October, 2019 and disposal of plastic waste on scientific lines will commence from 3rd October to 27th October, 2019.
Speaking on the occasion, the DDC apprised the participants about hazardous effects of polythene and plastic to environment. He also called for avoiding usage of polythene carry-bags.
The DDC directed the concerned to sensitize the people about the ill effects of polythene and plastic. He stressed on the concerned officers to create mass awareness by way of holding awareness activities in every Tehsil of the district.
Several other speakers also shared their views on the challenges and potential solutions of Plastic Waste Management in the district and discussed existing gaps in the functioning and future plans of scientific disposal of plastic waste.
While speaking on the occasion, ADDC highlighted the need and importance of Plastic Waste Management and said that district administration is making all out efforts to curb the menace of polythene use besides its disposal on scientific lines.
