News about seizure of weapons of J&K police SPOs is fake: Home Secy

Srinagar, Aug 19: Jammu and Kashmir Home Secretary Shaleen Kabra on Monday termed ''fake'' the news regarding seizure of weapons of Special Police Officers of state police.

''A fake news is being spread that weapons of special police officers of J&K police are being seized,'' Mr Kabra here said.

He added that this is purely a rumour being spread by vested interests and it is categorically denied.

The Home Secretary further added that public at large is further advised not to believe in such rumours and baseless news and not to further spread such news without verifying from authentic sources.

Pertinent to mention here that the 2G mobile internet service in five districts of Jammu region, which was restored on August 16 night, was again snapped on Sunday following rumour mongering.

''Taking preventive measures, the internet service was snapped on Sunday as some elements started rumour mongering on various issues in this sensitive state especially post abrogation of Article 370 on August 5,'' said a senior police official.

He, however, said situation in entire state is quite peaceful and normalcy is limping back while around 190 schools in Srinagar also opened today and the restrictions in 35 police stations are also lifted.

''No untoward-like incident took place and the lifting of restriction period has been extended from six to eight hours, which will further be eased in the coming days,'' he added.

Meanwhile, the landline service has also been restored whereas in some belts, Jammu and Kashmir police is helping the locals to contact to their loved ones outside the state from the landline phones operational at police stations.
