DLSA, J&K GPB organize awareness programme

JAMMU, JULY 20: District Legal Services Authority, Jammu in association with J&K State Gurudwara Prabandhak Board, Jammu, today conducted an awareness programme on the theme "Welcoming Back the twittering and chirping of the Birds, by reviving the age old culture/tradition of feeding the birds in saucers" under the supervision of Secretary District Legal Services Authority, Jammu, Naushad Ahmed Khan at Government Women's College Parade, Jammu.
Secretary, briefed the students about the importance of birds in balancing ecology, pollination, maintaining Food Chain. He also explained about the tradition of feeding birds in saucers in Hindu culture, there is a belief that feeding birds (crows) is considered as feeding our dead ancestors. Crows are the only birds which act as a messenger to Pitri Loka, he added.
Principal Women College Parade Jammu, Dr. Hemla Agarwal also spoke on the subject.
Meanwhile, Advocate Jyoti Majotra conducted an interactive session and quiz competition with the students who raised various queries.
Secretary DLSA along with the Chairman, J&K State Gurudwara Prabandhak Board, Tarlochan Singh Wazir and other dignitaries distributed saucers among all the students and faculty members for keeping the saucers with water and feed at the gardens, terraces and court yards, etc of their homes.
Dr. Arti Sharma, Prof. Environmental Sciences, delivered lecture on the topic.
