Jammu GCET sponsors 56 students to Chandigarh for Advanced Training

JAMMU, JULY 18: The Government College of Engineering and Technology, Jammu has deputed 56 students of 2nd and 3rd year of different branches of engineering to a Resource Centre in Chandigarh during the summer vacation for undergoing an advanced training on the emerging areas in their fields.
This four weeks training is basically intended to make the students abreast with upcoming technologies in various fields viz. Machine Learning, Internet of Things (IOT), Artificial Intelligence (AI) and 3D Printing etc.
The said initiative has been taken for the first time under the guidance of Secretary, Higher Education Department, Talat Parvez Rohella, who said that such activities help in broadening the skills of the students so as to make them industry-ready and carry out further research as per the current demand. He also said that organising such summer training programmes would be a regular feature which shall be further escalated by collaborating not only with more institutes of Higher learning but also with reputed industries so as to prepare the students to meet the growing challenges of the industry.
He further said that in view of rapid technological advancements, it has become essential for any institute to incorporate modern learning methods and such training sessions in a new environment will help the students to supplement their knowledge apart from their regular curriculum. He also said that these training sessions will update the students about the latest technological developments so as to build a skilled pool of resources, ready for the industry as soon as they are out of the campus. Speaking about the initiative, Dr Sameru Sharma, Principal GCET said that GCET, Jammu has emerged as pioneer in this direction by providing abundant opportunities to the students to participate into advanced training programmes with increased tie ups with various organisations and adoption of new means of learning. She further informed that GCET has already entered into a MoU with University Institute of Engineering and Technology (UIET), Chandigarh for carrying out joint academic activities under twinning arrangement of TEQIP-III.
Furthermore, to provide a broad spectrum of opportunities to the students, a cell of senior faculty members has been constituted in the institution, assigned with the job of mentoring and motivating the students in their respective fields to make them inquisitive, innovative and also research ready. The cell will be identifying/ arranging for such training sessions in various resource centres within and outside the country.
