Cong, Independent Coprorators allege discrimination

JAMMU: The second General House meeting of the Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC), which was held today, witnessed uproarious and noisy scenes as all the Congress Coprorators and some independents alleged that they are being “neglected and discriminated” in not only fund allocation but in other affairs of the Corporation as well.
“Except street lights, we have not been given anything, they are misleading that funds of Rs 10 have been allocated to Corporators,” the protesting Corporators alleged amid intense sloganeering.
As soon as the General House meeting of the Jammu Municipal Corporation began today after nearly 7 months, all the 15 Corporators of Congress Party and some independents left their seats and held strong protest in front of Mayor and Deputy Mayor alleging gross neglect and discrimination in allocation of funds.
In the complete pandemonium, the BJP and the Congress and some independent Corporators also had some heated verbal duel with both sides leveling counter allegations.
All the Corporators are treated equally, the BJP Coprorators, said, while the Congress Corporators alleged that they are being discriminated and not provided funds.
When contacted, some of the Congress Corporators alleged that they were not informed on time about the General House meeting due to which they could not submit their questions/resolutions and work proposals of their respective wards.
“The last date for submission of questions/resolutions and work proposals of our respective wards was July 8 till 4 PM,” Congress Corporator from ward number 28, Gourav Chopra told The News Now adding, “However, many Corporators were given letters about the General House meeting after July 8 and some of us were informed yesterday or a day before yesterday”.
He said, “Due to this discriminatory attitude, we would now not be able to highlight the issues and development needs of our respective wards”.
Meanwhile, due to chaotic scenes, the proceedings of the General House meeting of the Corporation could not be conducted as per the day’s business.
“The situation was however, pacified by the Mayor, Chander Mohan Gupta, who assured that the concerns of all the opposition Corporators will be taken care of,” sources informed.
“The General House meeting has now been extended to 3 days so that all the opposition Corporators could raise the issues of their respective wards besides development needs,” they said.
