Rs 134 Crore paid as rent for 56k acres J&K land with defence depts, wings, org in 3 yrs

JAMMU: The union government has been paying Rs 45 crore annually on an average for the 56615.54 acres of land acquired in Jammu and Kashmir by the different departments of the defence services. However, Rs 24 crore is the outstanding rent that is yet to be paid for the defence land in the state.
“In the last three years, Rs 134.45 crore total rent has been paid to land owners or the state government,” Minister of State (MoS) for Defence Shripad Naik, said in his written reply to a question in Lok Sabha.
“Out of the total rent paid, Rs 47.65 crore was paid in year 2016-2017, 47.65 in year 2017-2018, 37.26 crore in year 2018-19. However, Rs 24 crore is yet to be paid to the land owners and state government,” the data tabled by MoS reveals.
“The different defence departments, wings and organizations have acquired a total 56615.54 acres of land from 22 districts of the state,” the data reveals.
In the further breakup data reveals that, the defence has acquired 22408.102 acres of land in three districts including Samba, Jammu and Kathua, which share International Border (IB) with Pakistan.
“In last three years, union government has paid Rs 50.2 crore to the land owners and state government for acquiring land in these districts. However, 12.5 crore is outstanding rent that is yet to be paid,” the data reads.
In the district along International Border, Jammu, the defence has acquired 18935.474 acres of land. In the district, the union government has paid Rs 42.13 crore in last three years. A total Rs 15.11 crore was paid in year 2016-2017, Rs 15.11 in year 2017-2018, Rs 11.9 crore in year 2018-19. However, Rs 76.52 lakh is yet to be paid.
The defence has acquired 2091.345 acres of land in district Samba which also shares International Border (IB) with it. In the past three years, government has paid 65.89 crore to the land owners of the district. A total Rs 26.6 crore in year 2016-2017, Rs 26.6 crore in year 2017-2018, Rs 12.5 crore in year 2018-19. However, Rs 12.5 crore is outstanding rent that is yet to be paid.
Similarly in another district along International Border, Kathua, the defence has acquired 1381.282 acres of land. In last three years, Rs 15.34 lakh has been paid to the land owners. A total Rs 6.13 lakh in year 2016-17, Rs 6.13 lakh in year 2017-18 and Rs 3.06 lakh in year 2018-19. However, Rs 3.065 Lakh is yet to be paid.
The defence has acquired 12163.58 acres of land in the four districts of state including Poonch, Rajouri, Baramulla and Kupuwara which shares Line of Control (LoC) with Pakistan.
The union government has paid Rs 47.7 crore in the past three years. However, Rs 9.43 crore is yet to paid to the lands owners.
