50 Sr BJP leaders, 100 Panchayat members summoned to Kashmir

JAMMU: BJP’s national president Amit Shah has summoned BJP senior leaders, including former ministers and former MLAs from Jammu region to Kashmir for getting political feedback besides discussing other major issues facing the state, especially of Jammu region.

Discussions will also be held upon party’s future programmes in the state as formulated by the national president.

Shah had asked the state unit of the BJP to send the names of the senior leaders including former ministers, former MLAs, MLCs and others for meeting him at Srinagar during his visit beginning tomorrow, sources informed.

“The state unit, on Sunday, sent names of around 50 senior leaders to the office of Shah and to the security agencies which were cleared by the Home ministry today,” reliable sources in the BJP informed the News Now.

The state office bearers of the party will also join them to discuss state’s political situation.

All the senior state leaders of BJP including former Deputy Chief Minister Kavinder Gupta, Speaker, Legislative Assembly, Dr Nirmal Singh, former ministers, former MLAs, some MLCs, general secretaries and others will be leaving for Kashmir tomorrow to meet Union Home Minister Amit Shah.

It may be mentioned that Amit Shah is arriving Kashmir tomorrow on a 2-day visit, his first in Jammu and Kashmir after assuming the charge as country’s Home Minister.

“Although, there is no particular agenda given to the BJP leaders from Jammu, but we will raise certain issues of Jammu region in the meeting with the Home Minister like problems of border residents, Rohingyas, delimitation of assembly constituencies in Jammu and Kashmir and some other issues concerning Jammu region,” a senior leader said, while wishing not to be named.

Amit Shah is also expected to discuss with the state BJP leaders the possibility of holding assembly elections in the state and take feedback on party’s preparations in this regard, sources said.

“The party has prepared a complete report on party’s preparations for assembly elections which will be presented before him,” a senior party leader, who will be attending meeting with Amit Shah informed.
The Home Minister has also called around hundred (100) Panchs and Sarpanchs from different areas of Jammu region for a meeting to get feedback on functioning of Panchayats at grass roots level and also to get their suggestions for further improving functioning of Panchayats.
