10 hurt in grenade attack

SRINAGAR: Ten civilians were injured in a grenade attack by militants on a police station in Pulwama district on Tuesday.

The militants lobbed the grenade towards the police station, but it exploded on the roadside, causing injuries to seven passers-by, the officials said.

The injured were identified as Mohammed Abdullah Kumar, Abdul Rasheed Khan, Masroor Ahmad Mir, Ghulam Mohammed Khan, Riyaz Ahmad Wagay, Mohammed Abass, Abdul Majeed, Abdul Majeed, Mohammed Shafi Mir—all residents of Arihal Pulwama and Mohammed Ashraf Hajam of Malikpora Pulwama.

Three of them-- Masroor Ahmad Mir, Ghulam Muhammad Khan and Riyaz Ahmad Wagay have been shifted to Srinagar’s hospital for specialized treatment.

However, police in its statement said that only two civilians were injured in the blast, adding that a case has been registered in this regard while as officers continue to work to establish the full circumstances of this case.

The security forces have cordoned off the area to look for the attackers.
