Revoke cooling period for NIT PhD holders: Mehbooba
Srinagar, Jun 18: Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) president Mehbooba Mufti called for doing away with 'cooling period' for PhD holders who want to apply for teaching posts in the National Institute of Technology (NIT), Srinagar.
Candidates, who have completed their PhD Degrees from the Institute, are barred from applying for teaching posts there for a period of three years as per the 'cooling period' provision.
'Detrimental for students from NIT, Srinagar as they're barred from applying for jobs while candidates from other institutions are given preference. Request @DrRPNishank ji to consider doing away with this unnecessary rider,' Ms Mufti, who is the former chief minister of J&K, wrote on micro-blogging site twitter.
Similar demands have been made by Jammu & Kashmir People's Movement chairman Shah Faesal. It makes absolutely no sense to deprive a candidate of his or her choice of institute for such a long time.
Leave aside setting a quota for the local aspirants, they are not even given the option to be automatically get selected for the NIT of their home state. Upon a closer look, this provision appears more as a tool to deprive the inclusion of local faculty in their local NIT than anything else,' Dr Faesal had said.
