9 crushed to death in Leh

SRINAGAR: In a tragic road accident, nine members of two families were killed when a truck they were travelling in rolled down a deep gorge in Ladakh.

All nine deceased are labourers hailing from Rajasthan and were working in this cold desert.
Giving details, a police spokesman said that a cement-laden truck bearing registration number JK13B 0171 was coming from Srinagar to Leh when it went out of the driver's control near Moon Land Lamayuru and rolled down a deep gorge.

"The truck plunged into a deep gorge killing nine people who were travelling in the truck,” he said, adding the mishap took place around 1.30 pm.

There were ten labourers belonging to two families of Bilwara Ajmer in Rajasthan onboard the truck which was loaded with the cement bags. They were crushed beneath the cements bags.

“All of them were taken to Khaltsi hospital where the doctors declared nine of them as brought dead,” he said, adding that another family member injured in the mishap was under treatment.

Reportedly, the driver has fled the spot and is now absconding.
