BJP bags 86% votes of Kashmiri migrants

JAMMU: Although the Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) has failed to set its foot in Kashmir valley during Lok Sabha elections 2019, but its candidates have secured majority of Kashmiri migrant votes.

As per the data of Election Commission of India (ECI), out of total registered migrant voters across Kashmir valley, 86 percent Kashmiri migrant voters cast votes in the favor of BJP candidates, who were contesting election in three Lok Sabh constituencies of Kashmir region.

There are over 99,000 registered migrant voters across the valley and they can vote in special polling stations, which are set up for them across the country by ECI.

A total of the 13,537 migrant votes polled in Anantnag, Baramulla and Srinagar constituencies. Out of votes polled by migrant voters, 11,648 have gone to the candidates of the BJP.

BJP’s Sofi Yousuf, who contested election on Anatnag Lok Sabha seat, got 7,251 migrant votes out of the 8,166 polled in the constituency. However, out of the total 124,000 Electronic Votes Machine (EVM) votes in the constituency, Yousuf received 10,225 votes.

Out of 2,532 migrant votes polled in Baramulla constituency, 1,813 gone in favour of the BJP’s Mohammad Maqbool War and 575 went to Peoples’ Conference (PC) candidate Raja Aijaz Ali.

Similarly, out of the 2,839 migrant polled in Srinagar constituency, 2,584 went to the BJP’s Khalid Jehangir.
