Five die in twin road accidents

JAMMU/SRINAGAR: Five persons, including a father-son duo, were killed and two other sustained injuries in two road accidents that Jammu and Kashmir on Friday.

The first accident occurred in Mahore area of Reasi district when a tipper skidded off the road killing three occupants.

“The Tipper bearing registration number JK19-5322, loaded with crushed stones, was on its way to Bothi from Arnas. When it reached Baja Morh Jamalan in Mahore this afternoon, the ill-fated vehicle skidded off the road and fell into a deep gorge,” official sources said.

Locals and police launched a rescue operation immediately and retrieved three persons before shifting them to a nearby hospital where all of them were declared brought dead by the doctors, Station House Officer (SHO) Mahore Mohd Anzar Mir said.

The officer identified the deceased as driver Mohammad Saleem (23) of Rajgarh in Ramban, Zakir Ahmad (22) son of Mohd Qasim of Rajgarh in Ramban and Delar Singh (24) son of Tilak Raj of Lander in Udhampur.

“A case under relevant sections of law has been registered and further investigations were taken up,” the SHO said.

In another accident, two members of a family died and two others suffered injuries after a car they were travelling in skidded off the road in Uri area of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district on Friday evening.

Parvaiz Ahmed Khawaja Ganai (42) son of Haji Ata Mohammad Ganie was travelling with his three sons in his Alto-800 car when he lost control over it and the vehicle rolled down into a deep gorge near Garkote village of Uri sector.

All the four injured were evacuated and taken to sub-district hospital Uri, where Parvaiz and his youngest son Danish Ahmed (10) were declared brought dead on arrival.

A doctor at Uri hospital identified the other two siblings as Shahid Ahmed (13 )and Suhail Ahmed (11).
The doctor further said that Shahid has been referred to Srinagar hospital for specialised treatment while Suhail is undergoing treatment in the hospital.

A police official also confirmed the incident and said a case has been registered and further investigation has been taken up.
