Male voters outshine women in LS polls

Voter participation decline by 5%

JAMMU: The overall participation of both male and female voters’ in six Lok Sabha constituencies across Jammu and Kashmir has declined by 5 percent as compared to previous general elections 2014.

Moreover, the male voters outshine women voters in the participation during Lok Sabha polls for the second consecutive term. In Lok sabha election 2014 and 2019, the male voter participation was higher than women voters.

During Lok sabha election 2019, the male voter participation stood up at 45.52 percent while female voter participation recorded at 43.52 percent.

Out of total registered 3775227 female voters, 1643139 (43.52%) cast vote while 1851741 (45.52%) male voter cast vote out of total registered 4067593 male voters.

The male voters had also outshined female voters in general elections 2014. The women voter participation was recorded at 48.50 per cent while male voters’ participation was recorded at 51.43 per cent.

The election Commission of India’s (ECI’s) data accessed by The News Now also revealed “Out of 78,42,979 total registered voters across the state, 34,95,923, people cast votes, which make overall voter turnout of 44.51 per cent, which was five per cent down from the 49.52 per cent recorded in the 2014 election.”

However, the previous Lok Sabha election 2014, was conducted in conducive atmosphere while during general election 2019, there was reports of violence and boycott call was given by separatist leaders in Kashmir valley.

“Out of total registered 3775227 female voters, 1643139 (43.52%) had exercised their franchise in recently concluded LS polls, which make the women participation 43.52 percent.” the data reveals.
In the year 2014, the participation of women was recorded five percent higher at 48.50 per cent. Out of total registered, 3391301 female voters, 1638704had exercised their franchise.

Similarly, the participation of male voters also recorded five percent less as compared to the previous elections. In year 2019, out of total registered 4067593 male voters, 1851747 cast their votes. This makes male participation 45.52 per cent, which is five per cent less as compared to 2014 general elections.

In year 2014, Lok Sabha elections the male voters participation was 51.43 while in 2019, the participation recorded at 45.52 per cent.

The Lok Sabha elections conducted in five phases in Jammu and Kashmir. The polling process was begun on April 11 and ended on May 6th.
