Govt fixes monthly honorarium for JMC Mayor, Dy Mayor, Councilors

JAMMU; After long deliberations, the government has finally fixed monthly honorarium for Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC)’s Mayor, Deputy Mayor, Councilors and Presidents/Chairmen of different committees of the Corporation, highly placed sources informed.

The Mayor will get the highest monthly honorarium.

Apart from this, the JMC Councilors, Presidents/Chairmen of different committees will also be paid for every single meeting of the Corporation which they attend.

“The Mayor will be paid monthly honorarium of Rs 50,000, Deputy Mayor will be given Rs 25,000, Councilors will be paid monthly honorarium of Rs 10,000 and the Presidents/Chairmen of different committees of the Corporation will be paid Rs 15,000 per month”, highly placed sources informed The News Now.

Sources informed that the monthly honorarium fixed by the government is not as per the proposal sent by the Corporation to the Finance Department.

The proposal was passed in the General House Meeting of JMC, a couple of months back.

“As per the proposal sent to the Finance Department, the JMC had demanded Rs 20,000 monthly honorarium for Councilors, Rs 31,000 for Deputy Mayor and Rs 50,000 for Mayor”, sources informed.

They informed that the Finance Department did not go by the proposal sent by the JMC but instead fixed different scales for monthly honorarium of Mayor, Deputy Mayor, Councilors and Presidents/Chairmen of different committees of the Corporation.

They informed that the apart from monthly honorarium, the Councilors will also be paid Rs 500 for every single meeting of the Corporation which they attend. The JMC, in its proposal sent to the Finance Department, had demanded Rs 1000 for the Councilors per meeting, sources informed.

“The formal announcement of new monthly honorarium fixed by the government could be made anytime after the declaration of results of 2019 Parliamentary elections”, reliable sources informed the News Now.

It may be mentioned that the Corporation was formed in October 2018 and since then no decision was taken regarding monthly honorarium of the Mayor, Deputy Mayor, Councilors and Presidents/Chairmen of different committees of the JMC.

The previous Councilors of the JMC were paid Rs 7000 monthly honorarium. There are 75 wards of the JMC which earlier used to be 71 before extension of JMC limits.
