Jammu, Apr 25: Good news for Vaishno Devi visitors trekking to the holy Cave Shrine via new Tarakote Marg as Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board is soon going to introduce 24x7 ‘langar’ for the pilgrims.

The world famous shrine is situated in the Trikuta Hills of Katra town in Reasi district of Jammu and Kashmir.

The Board CEO said that it has been decided to provide ‘langar’ to the pilgrims performing pilgrimage via Tarakote Marg round the clock at ‘Tarakote Bhawan’.

''The pilgrims will get 'langar' round the clock,'' Dr Simrandeep Singh, Chief Executive Officer, Shrine Board here told TNN.

He expressed that the Board has started the exercise and all arrangements and preparations are being reviewed, adding, “the facility is likely to be introduced from mid of May.”

The CEO said that purchase of essential commodities and utensils have started, adding, “the menu for ‘langar’ is almost ready”.

He, however, said that at a time around 200 pilgrims can be offered the ‘langar’ but in case of too much rush, a ticket counter will also be set up so that the pilgrims can wait for their turn after getting the ticket.

He said that Dogri food will be the highlight of the menu as people coming from parts of the country, must also know about the culture and traditional items of this region.

In the breakfast, pilgrims will get traditional Black Chana-Puri, halwa, tea and in the afternoon Dogri food including dal, rice and ambal (traditional dish) will be served whereas in the evening, tea with rusk and other bakery items, he said, adding that in the dinner, vegetable, dal, rice, chapati and sweets have been added into the menu.

"The menu will keep changing depending on the availability of seasonal vegetables and it will not have the similar items that are available at the Bhojanalayas," said the CEO.

''Likewise other famous religious destinations, the Shrine Board has decided to introduce this free ‘langar’ for the pilgrims and details will also be uploaded on official website,'' he added.

"Initially the facility is being introduced at Tarakote Marg but in future, it can also be made available on old traditional route," he maintained.

Record 85 lakhs pilgrims visited to the Vaishno Devi Bhawan in 2018, the figure was the highest in the past five years.
