Asian Badminton: Sindhu, Saina and Sameer enter round 2, Srikanth knocked out
New Delhi, Apr 24 (UNI) Indian star shuttlers P V Sindhu, Saina Nehwal and unseeded Sameer Verma won their respective matches and sailed into the second round of the ongoing Asian Badminton Championship while fifth seed Kidambi Srikanth was knocked out of the tournament in Wuhan, China on Wednesday.
Fourth seeded Sindhu edged out Sayaka Takahashi of Japan in straight sets 21-14, 21-7 in just 28 minutes.
Sindhu has now 4-2 career record against Takahashi.
Seventh seed Saina Nehwal had a tough task beating world no 12 Han Yue 12-21, 21-11, 21-17. Saina has equalled her record 1-1 against Yue.
In the men's singles Sameer also had a tough match but went on to beat Kazumasa Sakai 21-13, 17-21, 21-18.
In another match Kidambi Srikanth crashed out of the tournament after making exit in the first round losing to Indonesian Shesar Rhustavito of the men's singles 16-21, 20-22.
Sindhu faces Indonesia's Choirunnisa in the second round while Sameer plays Hong Kong's Ng Ka Long Angus in the round two.
In the men's doubles it was heartbreak for Indian pair MR Arjun and Ramchandran Shlokh went down in the first round while in the women's doubles Meghana Jakkampudi and Poorvisha S Ram also lost.
