Anantnag PC: Only 1.55 pc polling recorded till 0900 hrs

Anantnag, Apr 23: Polling is yet to pick up as only 1.55 per cent voting was recorded during the first two hours in the first of three phase polling in six of the 16 Assembly segments of Anantnag Parliamentary Constituency (PC) in south Kashmir amid unprecedented security arrangements following boycott and strike called by Joint Resistance Leadership (JRL) on Tuesday.
Majority polling stations, particularly in the main town in Bijbehara and Anantnag, have yet to pick up while in the outskirts and villages people, including some women, polled their votes while more were seen moving towards polling stations.
An official spokesman said that during the first two hours of polling 1.55 per cent voting was recorded in the constituency.
However, the authorities are hopeful of the polling picking up as the day progresses.
